While getting ready for one of the Free Wednesday NLP/Persuasion TeleSeminars
I got an email from a gentleman who wanted to learn persuasion that really got
my attention. Of course my first recommendation was to turn him to my products on persuasion and NLP and to take part in the NLP/Persuasion TeleSeminars that are FREE every Wednesday. Then he asked something very interesting. "Whether I am buying a car, selling a car, buying or selling a foreclosure, meeting a woman, or just trying to make a good impression on the person I met at Starbucks, etc, there should be a cookie cutter system for building rapport, eliciting values, story telling, and so forth and in a specific order which is the same for all persuasion situations. I'm positive if I memorized the "steps" in the correct order to apply the "techniques", I would be a much more influential person because I know the "techniques" already." Then it hit me. This is how so many of us learn about NLP and Persuasion. Keep in mind PEOPLE ARE NOT MADE IN COOKIE CUTTER FASHION so why should any of us deal with them that way????? The point of learning NLP is to develop your own style of for building rapport, eliciting values ,story telling, and so forth. My best advise is to learn EVERYONE'S style of NLP and persuasion. Learn the rapport skills and memorize the language patterns and see what works under certain situations. NLP and Persuasion is about FLEXABILITY and eventually (not that long) you will DEVELOP YOUR OWN STYLE and be able to respond quickly, easily and flexibly. My advice is 1) Treat every person like they are one of kind... and always use your rapport skills. 2) Create curiosity in yourself so that you WANT to find out as much as you can about them. People like that and it builds rapport! 3) Stop your internal dialogue of thinking "What should I do next?" or "Am I saying this right?" maintain rapport and trust your training. 4) Use your NLP/Persuasion skills as you see an opening in the conversation. 5) Most importantly: Don't wait to till you have it perfectly down to use it.
